The season is short and spectacular: Going-to-the-Sun Road typically opens fully late June–early July and closes in October. July–August is peak; September brings gold larch and fewer people. Snow can visit any month at elevation.
Camping around Glacier National Park
Vehicles over 21 feet aren't allowed on the central alpine stretch of Going-to-the-Sun Road — camp on the west (Apgar) or east (St. Mary) side and drive the road in your unhitched vehicle. Book July–August sites well ahead; this is grizzly country, so food storage rules apply everywhere.
Delivery vs. towing here
The 21-foot rule makes delivery unusually valuable here: the trailer stays at camp, your vehicle does the alpine road. Flathead Valley hosts deliver toward West Glacier, Columbia Falls, and Whitefish.

Can I tow a trailer over Going-to-the-Sun Road?
No — vehicles and combinations over 21 feet are prohibited on the alpine section. Park the trailer at a campground on either side and drive the road unhitched.
When does the full road open?
Plowing usually finishes late June–early July, and the road closes again in fall. If Going-to-the-Sun is the point of the trip, aim for mid-July through September.
