Build the home of stays on wheels
We're a small, distributed team building the marketplace we wished existed when we were trying to book a fifth wheel. If that sounds like a thing you'd want to spend a few years on, read on.
How we work
We're fully distributed across North America, run on async-by-default communication, and meet in person three to four times a year at off-sites that are usually held — yes — at a Wheelhouse listing. We expect a lot of overlap with US business hours during the workday but we don't police schedules.
- Small teams. Most projects are one to three people end to end. You'll own things instead of shepherding tickets.
- Writing first. We make decisions in docs and PR descriptions. Less “we should sync” and more “here's the proposal, please push back.”
- Ship to learn. Most features ship behind a flag, get used by real hosts within a week, and either graduate or get killed within a month.
- Long horizons. The marketplace will take years to fully build. We're hiring for that, not a sprint.
Open roles
We hire deliberately, and most roles open here are the only openings on that team. Send a short note that includes a link to something you've made — code, a write-up, a launch — we don't care about the format. Address it to jobs@getwheelhouse.com.
Senior product engineer (full-stack)
Own a slice of the host or guest experience end to end. Our stack is Next.js + Supabase + Stripe Connect, with React Native on the mobile side. You should be comfortable shipping across the front end, the API, and the database.
Senior product designer
Lead design on either the host operations surface or the guest discovery flow. We have a working visual system; we need someone to push it forward and make hard structural decisions about pricing rules, calendar editing, and search.
Trust & safety operations
Build the playbooks that handle disputes, suspicious listings, problem stays, and the inevitable edge cases that show up the moment a marketplace gets traction. Background in fraud, support escalations, or insurance claims preferred.
Host success manager
Be the human-shaped help system for our top hosts. Coach them on listings, walk them through Stripe Connect, work out what tools we should be building, and feed all of that back to the product team.
What our interview looks like
- Intro call (30 min).Two-way fit. We describe the company honestly; you describe what you're looking for.
- Craft conversation (60–90 min).Walk through something you've built. We're looking for taste and judgment, not trick questions.
- Paid project or pairing session. A small scoped problem that mirrors something on our actual roadmap. We pay market rate for your time.
- Team meets.Three or four short calls with people you'd work with. Open Q&A in both directions.
- Offer + references. Decision within a week of finishing.
Compensation & benefits
- Competitive base salary plus meaningful equity. Salary bands are published internally and we share them on the intro call.
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision for you and dependents in the US, with international stipends elsewhere.
- Twenty paid vacation days, twelve holidays, sick time, and parental leave that doesn't make you do math.
- An annual home-office or co-working stipend, and a yearly trailer-stay credit you can use on the platform.
- Real off-sites that are not glorified work weeks. Three or four a year.
Don't see your role?
We're a small team, so most of the time we're not actively hiring for whatever you do. If you'd be a good fit anyway and you're patient, write to jobs@getwheelhouse.com. Real cover letters get real replies.
